Cumberland Show 2026

About Us

For over 180 years, the Cumberland Agricultural Society has proudly celebrated everything that makes our rural community special — from farming and food to countryside life and family fun.

Our flagship event, the Cumberland Show, takes place each June and brings together the very best of agricultural tradition with a fresh, modern twist. It is a true celebration of farming, food, and rural living in the heart of Cumbria.

Visitors can enjoy a full programme of livestock classes, including beef, dairy, and sheep, alongside young handler competitions, heavy and light horse classes, vintage vehicles, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, and a popular fun dog show.

The Countryside Area offers fascinating demonstrations of traditional rural crafts and skills, while the Home Industries Marquee, Craft Marquee, Shop @ The Show Marquee, and the ever-popular Food Hall showcase local produce, handmade goods, and regional talent.

With trade stands, entertainment, and activities across the Showfield, the Cumberland Show promises a fantastic family day out, filled with countryside charm, community spirit, and something for everyone to enjoy.

The Newton Rigg Trophy

We are proud to announce The Newton Rigg Trophy, kindly donated by the Newton Rigg Society following the winding down of their organisation.

After thoughtful discussion, our committee has decided that this special award will honour a young person shaping their own future in agriculture, equine, forestry, or the countryside across Cumbria and the Scottish Borders..

This competition celebrates the outstanding contributions of young people aged 16–30 who are helping to drive innovation, sustainability, and progress in the future of the countryside.

At the Cumberland Agricultural Society, we remain committed to championing the next generation. Young people are not only the future of agriculture, equine, forestry, and countryside industries, but also key drivers of positive change today. Through this award, we aim to celebrate their achievements, share their stories, and highlight their vision for the future of these vital rural sectors in Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to young people aged 16–30 who are actively involved in agriculture, equine, forestry, or countryside industries within Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.

Whatever your story, we want to hear it!

You can nominate yourself or someone you know who deserves recognition for their outstanding achievements in these sectors.

Other Activities

Supporting Our Rural Community

The Cumberland Agricultural Society is proud to be a member of both the Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations and the North West Federation of Show Societies, connecting us with a wider network of events and agricultural excellence across the region.

Each year, we are delighted to support one local charity by offering a fantastic opportunity to raise funds and build awareness at the Cumberland Show. The chosen charity benefits from a roving collection at the exit gates and a free trade stand to showcase their important work to thousands of visitors throughout the day.

Beyond the Show, the Society is actively involved in a range of initiatives designed to promote agriculture, rural life, and countryside heritage continuing our long-standing mission to celebrate and support the communities at the heart of Cumbria.

Long Service Award

The Long Service Award proudly celebrates the dedication, loyalty, and commitment of those who have devoted their careers to the agricultural industry.

Presented annually, this prestigious award recognises farm workers and individuals in farming-related businesses who have given over 30 years of outstanding service to the same employer.

It’s our way of honouring the incredible people whose hard work, skill, and passion have helped shape and sustain our rural community for generations.
