About The Cumberland Agricultural Society

History
The Cumberland Agricultural Society has been promoting agriculture and rural life for more than 170 years. The main event of the year is the annual Cumberland Show.

As the show for the old county of Cumberland – now incorporated into Cumbria – it has been an established annual event at Carlisle for all those years. Held alongside the river Eden, the show was previously in Bitts Park, close to Carlisle Castle. In 1991 the Cumberland County Show moved upriver to Rickerby Park and a much larger space. It completely filled the beautiful 100 acre parkland site until 2009 when the show was cancelled due to a risk of flooding.

From 2010 the Cumberland Show will be held at Carlisle Racecourse, Durdar Road, where the infrastructure will allow the show to develop further with a reduced risk of being affected by poor weather.
