A Day at The Cumberland Show

10am

Arrive quite early to get a good parking space.

Stroll across to the livestock and main ring area and admire the huge beef bulls, and the milking cows as they are judged in the rings. View the huge number of cattle on display in their marquees especially the 100 Charolais Cattle and the 50 Galloway cattle in their National Breed shows.
11am

Take a trip down to the horse section where the junior showjumping is well underway, or watch the working hunter horses take the attractive jumps in their stride. With around 800 horses there is much to see.

Head back to the main ring for the powerful heavy horses being judged in the main ring.

And don't miss the nearby sheep, where we have more than 12 different breeds, and the goats with their own marquee.

12noon

Must be time for a coffee if you haven’t had one along the way, or why not call in for a hot local roast beef roll freshly cooked, before they run out.

Keep an eye on the timetable in the show guide you were given at the gate. You don’t want to miss any of the action in the main ring, the food hall or the countryside area.

12.30
Watch the activities on display in the countryside area, maybe taking part, and admire the birds of prey.

1.00pm

Hungry work walking round the show so must be time for lunch – could be a good time to try either the variety of local producers outside the food hall, or call into the Country Kitchen on the way.

While near the food hall go in and watch a cookery demonstration, and buy some delicious locally made items to take home.

Near the food hall there is a variety of entertainment acts all through the day. Just sit in the grandstand and enjoy.

2.00

Don’t forget to keep an eye on the timetable – perhaps the terrier racing, a fashion show or sheep shearing at the model farm.

You will need plenty of time at the model farm to let the children play with the chicks, watch the pigs and learn about milking of cows.

Wander back across the track to view the wonderful displays produced by local primary schools. While there why not look through the handicrafts, baking and produce that people have entered. Be sure to see the large display of hand made walking sticks.

3.00
Don’t miss the parade of prize winning animals in the main ring if you get a chance, and then perhaps stay to watch an entertainment feature you missed earlier.

4.00

Oh dear! What to do now – the time is running out and still you haven’t done any shopping (there are dozens of stands to choose from), the children want to view the rabbits and you haven’t seen the dog show either. Cumberland wrestling is just starting in the paddock area and you are desperate for a cup of tea, an ice cream or even a beer!

5.00

The final display in the main ring, but the wrestling carries on. Get a bird’s eye view in the grandstand to rest your weary legs before the journey home.
